Charitable Organizations
Waco Family Medicine is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC)* providing health care to underserved residents of McLennan and Bell counties who have historically struggled in a health care system that favors privately-insured patients. Last year, we served over 60,000 patients, providing integrated medical, dental, and behavioral health care across 14 clinic sites with three additional clinics added in 2024. Additionally, WFM addresses social and environmental barriers to wellness through innovative programs and community partnerships.
Quinn Campus Incorporated was established in 1997 as a non-profit organization to revitalize the Historic Paul Quinn College campus, the cornerstone of East Waco. The campus was vacated in 1990 when Paul Quinn College relocated to the Dallas area. As it sat unattended, the campus rapidly deteriorated, prompting local leaders to initiate acquiring the campus as a Waco asset. With substantial financial support from the Cooper and Rapoport Foundations, the 22-acre property was purchased from Paul Quinn College in 1999, with Quinn Campus Incorporated serving as owner of the grounds. Founding Board members included Bill Nesbitt, Jafus Cavil, and Len Brown. Today the Quinn Campus Inc. Board of Directors continues to carry out the organization’s mission by ensuring community access to the grounds and through stewarding the campus’ use in a manner that injects pride, honors its audacious history, and projects vitality into the community.
In 1979, Frances Sturgis, friend of First Lady Claudia “Lady Bird” Johnson, who introduced the national beautification effort during Lyndon B. Johnson’s presidency, convinced Waco leaders to establish the Greater Waco Beautiful Association that would actively support ongoing beautification efforts in Waco.
In 1981, the GWBA was incorporated and became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. GWBA soon thereafter became a certified affiliate of Keep Texas Beautiful and Keep America Beautiful. After 45 years we have held gold statuses with both affiliates, including winning several grants and awards to further our mission.
